Update: Man Arrested In Pursuit That Killed Trooper

Update: 7:00am Wednesday – The suspect sought in the murder investigation of Trooper S. N. Bullard was arrested around 3:30am Wednesday without further incident.  Dakota Kape Whitt, 22, of Elkin was transported to the Wilkes County Detention Center in Wilkesboro.

The NC Highway Patrol is seeking assistance from the public in locating the driver involved in Monday night’s pursuit in Surry County.

At approximately 10:53pm, troopers attempted to stop a black BMW passenger vehicle that traveled through a checkpoint.

During the pursuit of the BMW, Trooper Samuel Newton Bullard, 24, was involved in a collision, causing Bullard to succumb to his injuries at the scene.

Bullard had been a trooper for 3 years.

After an extensive search, authorities located the BMW along with the registered owner, identified as Cheyenne Harrison.

The driver of the BMW has been identified as Dakota Kape Whitt, 22, of Elkin.

Investigators have obtained warrants for Mr. Whitt, charging him with murder, felony fleeing to elude arrest in a motor vehicle and driving with a revoked license.
