Driver Who Fled From Deputy Arrested For DWI

A motorist who fled from a deputy sheriff is facing criminal charges. At 9:47pm Friday, a sheriff’s deputy was traveling on Highway 210 near Smithfield and spotted a car stopped in the middle of the roadway. The deputy stopped behind the vehicle and turned on his blue lights. Before he could approach the vehicle, the driver sped away.

The driver traveled approximately 7/10ths of a mile failing to stop for the officers blue lights and siren. The driver stopped after reaching her home in the Bell Hope Mobile Home Park on Swift Creek Road.

Karen Daniela Coto, 24, of Smithfield was charged with driving while impaired and failure to heed for a blue light and siren.  Coto registered 0.11 on the Breathalyzer, above the legal limit of 0.08 in North Carolina.

Coto was released from the Johnston County Jail on a $5,000 bond.
