Driver Who Gave Brother’s Name During Traffic Stop Charged With Identity Theft

FOUR OAKS – A routine traffic stop for speeding resulted in the arrest of a driver on identity theft charges.   A SAFE Team deputy was on routine patrol Friday afternoon on Highway 701 just south of Four Oaks and stopped a pickup truck for speeding.

The driver said he didn’t have his license with him and allegedly provided the name of his brother to the officer.  The officer determined the man had provided him with a fictitious name and arrested him for felony identity theft.

Daniel Velasquez, 26, of W. Leon Lane, Dunn was also charged with speeding, driving on a revoked license and misdemeanor marijuana possession.  He was held on a $50,000 bond.

The Dodge Dakota truck he was driving was impounded.
