Drivers Seriously Hurt In Head-On Collision

Highway 42 West of Clayton was shut down for more than two hours Friday night following a serious head on collision. It occurred just west of the Highway 50 interchange.

A white work van and white Ford SUV collided head-on around 5:25pm trapping both drivers in their vehicles.  The female driver of the SUV had to be cut from the wreckage before being transported by ambulance to Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.

The male driver of the van was pinned in his overturned vehicle for about 90 minutes before being freed.  He was also taken to Wake Medical Center.  Both drivers sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries.

As of Monday, the NC Highway Patrol had not released the names of those involved or what caused the crash.  Photos by JoCoFire.com
