Drone And K-9 Teams Help Capture Attempted Robbery Suspect

Roberts

GARNER – The Wake County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man less than an hour after allegedly attempting to commit a strong-armed robbery, Thursday evening.

Deputies arrested Jason Charles Roberts, age 45, of Richlands, NC. Roberts is charged with one count of attempted robbery.

Around 7 p.m., Wake Deputies were dispatched to a Dollar General on Benson Road, in Garner, for a reported attempted robbery. Upon arrival, deputies spoke to a female victim, who reported that when she was exiting her vehicle, Roberts approached her, demanding her car keys. The victim refused his request and ran into the Dollar General for help. The suspect then fled to an area behind the store.

With a description provided by the victim, Wake County’s Patrol Unit, along with K-9 and the Special Operations’ Drone Team was deployed in the area to begin searching for the suspect.

Approximately 45 minutes into the search, Wake’s Drone Team and K-9 teams were able to track the suspect’s location inside a BP Gas Station at State Road 1010 and Highway 50. Roberts was positively identified by the victim and taken into custody.

Wake County Sheriff Gerald M. Baker commended the efforts of his staff in apprehending the suspect quickly.

“This office now uses all resources available in protecting this county,” said Sheriff Baker.

Roberts was transported and booked into the Wake County Detention Center.
