Drug-Filled Backpack Found At Johnston County Elementary School, JCSO Says

CLAYTON – The father of a student at a Johnston County elementary school is facing felony charges.

Calvin Bernard Carter, 33, of Garner was arrested Wednesday on the campus of Cleveland Elementary School.

According to the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, video cameras at the school allegedly captured Carter walk his juvenile child inside Cleveland Elementary, Wednesday morning, then hand his child a backpack. Administrators located suspected marijuana inside the backpack and alerted a school resource officer (SRO).

The SRO then notified a sheriff’s office narcotic detective who arrived and determined the backpack contained several bags of marijuana, weighing a total of 1.6 pounds.

Authorities believe Carter mistakenly gave his child the wrong backpack.

Carter was charged with conspiracy to sell or deliver marijuana, possession with intent to sell or deliver marijuana, and the manufacture sell or deliver a controlled substance within 1000 feet of a school. Carter was given a $70,000 secured bond.

  1. This culture thinks marijuana is harmless. It is a mind altering drug that has a negative impact on society.

  2. Wonder how long it took them to do a search warrant on his residence? Bet they didn’t wait long.

  3. Carter, you are a ROYAL POS to drag your son into your deviant ways of life. Man, you set a good example for your kid. I hope they take your kid from you so maybe he will have a better chance at life and does not grow up to be a looser like you!

  4. Don’t judge a book by its cover he might be a drug dealer and made a mistake by giving the wrong bag. But some of you probably Narcissist, Pedo’s, or abusive to your own or others children. So look in the mirror because I guarantee none of you are angels and have a past so ****

    • I am unable to understand how people like you can defend trash like this. HE IS TRASH! Is he your dealer? This is a great environment for the child to grow up in, is That what you’re saying?

  5. You know you all have valid points… however and i do notknow this man but have any of you watched the news with all the missing children at the hands of DSS? How about instead of saying what NEEDS to happen we pray that the father gets the help and tools he needs to be the best father he can be.. im not defending or taking up for him but noone knows his situation!

  6. I know this man and he is a great father and I promise you his kids have never seen him smoke pot because he doesn’t. In all honesty it could’ve just not been his. He could’ve just grab the wrong bag and kept his mouth shut. I know he has a large family and a large vehicle too but I can honestly say from what I seen and know he is probably the best influence his kids have in their life. His kids are very smart! There is enough chemicals laying around that can kill a kid. This a man that works 8 hours a day 6 days a week and still has time to take his kids to school.
