A traffic stop for an expired license plate left Johnston County SAFE Team deputies to methadone and morphine pills inside the car.
Late-Wednesday, the officer was on routine patrol on Highway 242 South of Benson when he stopped the vehicle. The driver, James Hanna Kelly, 67, of Lee-Johnson Road, Dunn could not provide the officer with a valid driver’s license.
Kelly agreed to a search of his car during which the narcotics were allegedly found.
Kelly was charged with felony possession with intent to manufacture sell or deliver a controlled substance, maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was incarcerated in the Johnston County Jail under a $200,000 bond.
