Drugs Found During US 701 Traffic Stop

A Selma man was arrested on traffic and drug charges following a traffic stop Thursday night in southern Johnston County.

Around 9:00pm, a Johnston County deputy spotted 27 year-old Demeaze Hashawn Chrisp of Madison Street operating a vehicle on US 701 South in the Bentonville community. The officer knew that Chrisp did not have a drivers license.

The officer activated his blue lights but Chrisp did not immediately pull over. He eventually stopped in a church parking lot. During a search a small bag containing 3 pieces of suspected crack cocaine was found next to where Chrisp was standing outside his car.

He was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance, failure to yield for a blue light, and driving on a revoked license. Chrisp was incarcerated in the Johnston County Jail under a $5,000 bond.
