Dunn Man Killed, Princeton Driver Seriously Injured In Head-On Crash
NEWTON GROVE, N.C. – A Dunn man was killed and a Princeton man seriously injured Tuesday morning in a head-on collision on U.S. 13 east of Newton Grove.
The N.C. State Highway Patrol responded to the two-vehicle crash at approximately 7:30 a.m. Sept. 15.
Troopers said Christopher S. Philyaw, 56, of Princeton was driving a 2006 Dodge pickup westbound on U.S. 13. Johnny L. Green, 65, of Dunn was traveling east in a 1994 Chevrolet pickup.
According to the Highway Patrol, Philyaw’s pickup traveled left of the centerline. Green reportedly took evasive action and swerved, and the two vehicles collided head-on near the center of the roadway.
Green was found unresponsive at the scene and died from his injuries.
Philyaw was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville with serious injuries.
Troopers said Philyaw was wearing a seat belt. Green was not restrained.
Speeding was not believed to be a contributing factor.
The crash is being investigated by the N.C. State Highway Patrol.
