Buies Creek – After extending his hit streak to eight games, Campbell’s Matthew Barefoot has been named the Come Ready Nutrition Freshman of the Week.
Barefoot continued his hot start to the 2017 season, hitting .450 (9-for-20) on the week with eight RBI and four extra-base hits.
The redshirt freshman extended his hit streak to eight games in a game one win in Saturday’s doubleheader with Evansville. The Dunn, N.C. native went 4-for-5 with two RBI, a double and a run scored in the win. Barefoot knocked in a season-best four on Friday night, going 3-for-5 with a home run, a double and three runs scored.
Barefoot also picked up a hit and drove in a run in each of the Camels’ midweek games at Georgia Southern. He was 3-for-3 on the base paths on the week.
For the season, Barefoot hits .439 with 13 RBI, 11 runs and 12 extra-base hits. It’s the second straight week the Campbell outfielder has earned conference honors after being named Big South Player of the Week accolades on March 6.
Campbell returns home, hosting Rider in a two-game midweek seriesTuesday (today) and Wednesday, March 14-15 at Jim Perry Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. for both games.
