A Selma man was arrested this morning (Monday) after he attracted the attention of a police officer while driving on Outlet Center Drive near Components Drive. Around 2:30am a Smithfield police officer was on routine patrol when he spotted a driver allegedly toss an aluminum can out his car window.
The officer stopped the vehicle for the littering violation and allegedly determined the suspect was impaired.
Dashawn Whetson, 27, of Tower Street, was charged with driving while impaired and littering. Police Chief Keith Powell said Whetson registered 0.09 on the Breathalyzer, just above the legal limit of 0.08 in NC.
Whetstone was given a $3,500 bond on the two charges and a court date of Jan. 11th.
