CLAYTON – A 38 year-old Selma man was arrested on numerous charges after he led Johnston County deputies on a brief car chase near Clayton. It happened shortly after 11:00pm Saturday on Jack Road.
A SAFE Team deputy was on patrol on Jack Road and reportedly spotted a Buick Century traveling at 59 mph in a 45 mph zone and also cross the centerline several times. The deputy tried to stop the car however the driver allegedly failed to pull over.
The driver turned onto Government Road even though he was only traveling between 30 and 35mph at times he failed to stop. After running through a red light the driver finally stopped in the middle of the roadway.
Antwon Deon Speights Sr. of River Road, Selma was charged with driving while impaired, driving on a revoked license, speeding, failure to stop for a red light, fleeing to elude arrest and operating a vehicle with no insurance.
A blood sample was taken for the DWI offense. The Buick was impounded.
Speight was taken to the Johnston County Jail where he was held on a $25,000 secured bond.
