A Smithfield man is facing multiple charges after crashing a Cadillac while fleeing at speeds of up to 100 mph from police.
Selma Police said they attempted to stop a car for speeding and erratic driving just after 3:00am Friday but the car failed to stop. The chase eventually lead to Outlet Center Drive where the driver accelerated to 100 mph. After entering the Smithfield city limits, the driver crashed the Cadillac in front of Cici’s Pizza. With the help of Smithfield Police and a Johnston County Sheriff’s Office K-9, the driver was found near a motel and taken into custody.
Kitendo Keoma Smith, 27, of Flowers Street, Smithfield reportedly told officers he fled because he was on probation and he didn’t have a valid driver’s license.
Smith was charged with fleeing to elude arrest, driving while impaired, driving on a revoked license, possession of an open container of alcohol, reckless driving, and failure to heed for lights or a siren. Bail was set at $35,000.
The 1996 Cadillac was seized under the NC Run And You’re Done Law.
