DWI Suspect Causes Thanksgiving Day Crash

An innocent motorist ended up in the hospital on Thanksgiving Day after being struck by a suspected impaired driver.

The crash happened around 4:00pm Thursday on US 70 in Johnston County.

Witnesses said a black Dodge Charger was speeding and weaving through eastbound traffic when the driver struck the back left corner of a minivan.

After the impact, the minivan overturned off the right shoulder of US 70. The Charger slid sideways 473 feet before stopping next to the roadway.

The operator of the van was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.  There were three people in the Charger. One passenger complained of injuries but declined transport to the hospital.

The driver of the Charger, Terry Shallworth, 30, of Angier was charged by the NC Highway Patrol with driving while impaired and reckless driving.  He reportedly told officers he was headed to Thanksgiving in Selma when the crash occurred.
