Eagle Scout Is Dedicated To Helping Others

On Sunday, November 3rd, an Eagle Scout Ceremony was held at Calvary Chapel of Clayton for Eagle Scout John Reece Sayas from Boy Scout Troop 77 of Smithfield. John was also presented with the Eagle Scout Good Citizenship Award from Eagle Scout Coordinator Lewis W. Rice III on behalf of the Johnston County Marine Corps League Carry-On Detachment #1236.

John is a senior at Neuse Charter School in Smithfield. He is also attending Early College at Johnston Community College and is studying Emergency Management. He plans to enroll full-time at JCC after high school to study Emergency Medical Science.

John, as any Scout, is very skillful and knowledgeable about the great outdoors. For his Eagle Scout project, he rebuilt a fishing pier at Howell Woods Environmental Learning Center near Four Oaks that was damaged by a storm. He also constructed a handicap ramp to help people with disabilities gain better access.

John plans on giving back to Scouting by joining a Venturing Crew and teach youth skills about rock climbing and safety.

John is the son of Joe and Billie Joe Sayas of Smithfield.
