Eagle Scout Recognized

Robert Ashworth Hinnant of Boy Scout Troop 29 of Kenly was recognized Nov. 5th during an Eagle Scout Ceremony at Bizzell Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Robert is a freshman at Johnston Community College. He recently served in his Troop as the Junior Assistant Scoutmaster. Now that he is 18, Robert plans to become an Assistant Scoutmaster as a way to give back to his Troop and community.

For his Eagle Scout project, Robert completely remodeled the Fellowship Hall in his church. The room is a 46-foot wide by 82-foot long enclosure that had dated brick and a dark interior. Robert led his Troop in covering the brick walls with new sheet rock, sanding, priming, a fresh coat of paint and new lighting to bring the once dark structure back to life.

During his Eagle Scout Ceremony, Robert (center) was presented an American Flag that was flown over the NC State Capitol in Raleigh on November 2nd from NC Representative Larry Strickland (right). Robert was also presented an Eagle Scout Good Citizenship Award from Eagle Scout Coordinator Lewis W. Rice III (left) on behalf of the Johnston County Marine Corps League Carry-On Detachment 1236.

Robert is the son of Greg and Donna Hinnant of Kenly.
