Smithfield Police are investigating a shooting reported Sunday morning. Around 3:00am, officers responded to the 900 block of Blount Street for a report of shots being fired.
Officers found a 49 year-old male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to the hospital and is in stable condition. The name of the victim has not been released.
Police Captain R. Sheppard said detectives are working several leads in the case.
