Eclipse Dims Sunny Skies

A number of people gathered in Downtown Clayton to watch the Solar Eclipse Monday afternoon.

The Town of Clayton handed out over 300 free pair of eclipse glasses to those who gathered at the Town Square. It was the first time in 99 years all of the continental United States expected an eclipse of the sun. The total eclipse was visible along a 70 mile wide path from Oregon to South Carolina. Johnston County saw a 93 percent eclipse.

Monday’s eclipse was the biggest astronomical event of 2017.

In case you missed it, the next eclipse across the United States will occur on April 8, 2024 and will block out the sun from Texas to Maine but not across North Carolina. Photos by John Payne
