Join other participants for the 2015 Elder Abuse Awareness Walk at the Smithfield Town Commons on Monday, June 15th. The event will take place at the Town Commons, directly behind the Neuse Little Theater, on the Buffalo Creek Greenway
Did you know that 1 out of every 14 cases of elder abuse goes unreported? One reason is that more than 90 percent of the abusers are family members. Other information about elder abuse will be posted along the Greenway during the silent walk. Statistics regarding exploitation, abuse, neglect, and how these forms of abuse affect the elderly population will all aid in educating the public on the growing abuse epidemic facing the elderly and disabled.
The silent walk will consist of a one mile loop along the greenway.
Events begin at 5pm Monday. The walk begins at 5:45pm and will end at 7:30pm. The public is invited to attend.
