WILSON’S MILLS – A Smithfield couple sustained injuries in a collision with a tractor trailer. The accident happened Wednesday afternoon on the US 70 eastbound exit ramp at Wilson’s Mills Road.
Wilson’s Mills Police said the 82 year-old driver had taken the exit ramp but failed to yield to traffic on Wilson’s Mills Road. His car proceeded through the stop sign and was struck by tractor trailer traveling on Wilson’s Mills Road.
The elderly driver complained of shoulder pain and was transported to WakeMed in Raleigh. His 79 year-old wife, a front seat passenger, suffered very serious injuries to her lower extremities and was also taken to WakeMed.
The driver of the semi was not injured.
