An elderly Johnston County man died in a house fire Friday morning.
Fire crews responded to the blaze around 6:00am at 370 Benson-Hardee Road, just off Highway 50 outside of Benson. Authorities said 70 year-old Leroy Norris Sr. died in the blaze.
A neighbor described Norris was a kind man “who would help anybody.” Norris was often seen in his community driving a golf cart.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Johnston County Fire Marshal and Johnston County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities said while the origin remains under investigation all signs point to the fatal fire being accidental.
