Smithfield Police have a person of interest following the attempted robbery of an elderly man inside Wal-Mart.
Around 1pm Thursday, an 82 year-old Selma man was in the restroom at Wal-Mart when a suspect blocked the doorway and demanded he hand over his wallet. The elderly victim told the robber he didn’t have any money, according to Police Captain R.K. Powell. That’s when the suspect tried to forcibly take the wallet from the victim, but was unsuccessful.
The elderly victim was not injured during the incident.
Captain Powell said investigators have a person of interest in the robbery.
