The Highway Patrol is investigating the death of an 80 year-old woman who died in her vehicle while headed to an accident scene.
The incident happened around 11:40am Sunday on Lake Wendell Road in northern Johnston County.
Troopers said Marion Schuster Ransbottom of Wendell was at home and received a call from her daughter that she had struck a deer with her car. Ransbottom left her residence on Mudham Road in her 2003 Buick to travel to the scene of her daughter’s accident. Before arriving at the scene, Ransbottom ran off Lake Wendell Road, colliding with a road sign then a tree, authorities said.
The accident remains under investigation but troopers tell WTSB News it appears the victim may have died from a medical issue and not as a result of the accident.
Funeral services for Ransbottom will be held at 11:00am Wednesday, November 18th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dunn. Burial will be held Friday, November 20th in the Braddock Catholic Cemetery in Braddock Hills, PA.
