Starting July 1st, it will cost more to have an EMS ambulance on standby at a special event.
EMS crews are often called upon to standby at private events and gatherings. For more than 15 years, Johnston County Emergency Services had been charging a rate of $35 per hour. A recent review found the rate is not covering the cost of the ambulance and crew.
The Johnston County Emergency Medical Services Advisory Committee met on April 23, 2019 and requested Johnston County Commissioners approve an increase in the hourly rate.
Beginning next month the rate will increase from $35 to $125 per hour for an ambulance with an EMT and Paramedic. $75 per hour will be charged when a supervisor unit, or single person resource, is requested to standby at a private event.
