There was no July 4th fireworks display in the Town of Smithfield this year due to COVID-19, but there will be a fireworks display on Veteran’s Day.
The Smithfield Parks & Recreation Department has received approval from the Smithfield Town Council to hold a fireworks display on Wednesday, November 11th at Smithfield Community Park. The event will take place between 5:00pm and 7:00pm. No food or goods will be sold. The event is contingent upon any Executive Order changes from the Governor’s Office.
The Town hopes attendees can enjoy the fireworks from their vehicles, parked in areas around and near Community Park.
“The event will not encourage large gatherings, but instead allow for ease of social distancing while celebrating those who have served in our Nation’s Military and kept our Country safe through, often times, supreme sacrifices,” according to the staff report.
Officials have not said if the Veteran’s Day fireworks display could become an annual event.
