Entries Sought For Johnston County Literary Journal

SMITHFIELD, N.C. – The Johnston County Heritage Center is looking for writers to contribute short stories, essays, and poems for its third Literary and Historical Journal, scheduled for publication later this year.

Writers from within and outside the county are encouraged to contribute, but entries should have a connection to Johnston County people, places, and events. There will be both Adult and Junior (High School) Divisions. Submissions will be accepted electronically between September 15 and October 30.

The project is funded in part by the Cynthia DeFord Adams Literary Fund. Adams, a longtime Four Oaks resident, was a teacher and published poet. One of her poems, “Greetings,” is inscribed on a stone in Brookgreen Gardens at Murrells Inlet, South Carolina.

For more information or to receive submission guidelines, prospective writers should send an email to heritagecenter@johnstonnc.gov.
