Extensive Damage Caused During Convenience Store Burglary

Thieves didn’t take anything but did cause significant damage during a convenience store break-in last week. In the early morning hours of Friday, April 30th, someone broke into Myers Community Mart at 4321 US Highway 70 East, Smithfield.

The suspects used a rock to shatter the glass entry door. Once inside they destroyed two slot machines in an attempt to steal coins. The machines were damaged beyond repair.

Damage to the two machines was placed at $11,000. Damage to the entry door was $539.

The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
