Fake Trump Bitcoin Cost Local Investor Thousands

JOHNSTON COUNTY – A cryptocurrency scam cost a local investor thousands of dollars.

A 37 year-old Johnston County resident was eager to purchase a Trump-endorsed memecoin after its launch.

The investor said he initially made a “test” purchase. After it went through successfully he made a larger purchase. Altogether, the man said he transferred $43,356 out of his bank account to make the purchase.

Later, when he changed his mind about the large cryptocurrency purchase, he realized the money was sent to a website not associated with officially endorsed Trump tokens. Some tokens use Trump’s name but have no association with the President.

As many as 130 different fake Trump cryptocurrency coins and websites are thought to exist online.

Enthusiasts are encouraged to purchase coins only on trusted platforms and check with official sources of information.

Scammers will frequently impersonate public figures using their names and photos on fraudulent websites. They will also exaggerate claims of large returns on your investment.

  1. So MAGA supporters fall right where the Venn Diagram overlaps for people that Trump grifts and people that scammers target? I’m shocked.

  2. Can’t think of a person who deserved to lose $40k more than this person. Oh no! He fell for a scam! Stupidity is not news.
