Family Of 3 Loses Home To Fire

A family of three, including a 9-year-old boy, lost their home in a fire Monday. Luckily they were not at home when flames erupted around 6:00pm in the rear of the house and spread quickly through the home on Kildaire Court in the Richardson Place neighborhood off NC 42.

The Clayton Fire Department, Cleveland Fire Department and Wilson’s Mills Fire Department responded along with Clayton Police Department and Johnston County Emergency Services. Crews were able to keep the flames from catching neighbors’ houses on fire, although there was such incredible heat coming from the home some siding was damaged on a house next door.

Unfortunately, one family cat died from smoke inhalation. The second family cat is still missing.

The Clayton Fire Marshal is investigating the cause. Multiple neighbors called 911 to report the fire. Smoke from the fire filled the sky across US 70 and into Downtown Clayton.

The family was very upset coming home to see their house gutted by fire. They were able to re-enter the home last night and save some baby and family pictures.

The investigation into what started the fire is continuing. The Red Cross assisting the family. Photos courtesy Town of Clayton
