Family Of 4 Injured After Being Struck By Drunk Driver

Four people were injured, one seriously, following a two car accident Wednesday night near Four Oaks involving a suspected drunk driver.

Around 8:04pm, the Highway Patrol said Kimberly Lynn Watts, 57, of Four Oaks was traveling westbound in a 2011 Nissan on Lassiter Road near Highway 210. As Watts entered a curve, an eastbound 2002 Mercedes operated by Jeromy Dale Lyon, 28, of Lassiter Road, Four Oaks crossed the centerline and struck the Nissan.

Troopers estimated Lyon was traveling at 55 mph at the time of impact, and Watts was traveling at 40 mph. The speed limit is 55 mph. After the impact the Mercedes came to rest in a ditch and the Nissan came to rest in the roadway.

Watts and three teenagers in her vehicle, ages 14, 14, and 16, were transported to Wake Medical Center in Raleigh. Watts injuries were listed as serious. The teens injuries were all non-life threatening.

Lyon, the driver of the Mercedes, reportedly left the scene on foot but was arrested a short time later.

Lyon was charged by Trooper C.O. Best with driving while impaired and hit and run.  Lyon reportedly registered 0.17 on the Breathalyzer, more than double the legal limit of 0.08.
