Fatal House Fire Ruled Accidental

One person died in a house fire early-Wednesday in Selma.

The two-alarm fire was reported around 2:20am at a home at 809 West Oak Street in Selma.

The fire was quickly brought under control but the body of 47 year-old Kenneth Wayne Brockington was found inside.

Selma Fire Chief Phillip McDaniel said Brockington’s body was found in a front living room area. Although the exact cause has not been determined, Chief McDaniel said the blaze appears accidental in nature.

Investigators said the actual fire was contained to two rooms however the entire home sustained heavy smoke damage. The structure was condemned by the Johnston County Inspections Department.

The Selma and Smithfield Fire Departments responded to the blaze.
