Fatal Moped Accident Under Investigation

One person was killed following an early morning moped accident. The accident was reported at 5:36AM today (Monday) on Packing Plant Road outside of Smithfield.

Troopers said a moped was traveling eastbound on Packing Plant Road when it ran off the right side of the roadway and overturned, ejecting the operator. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The name of the individual has not been released pending notification of their next of kin.
