A Smithfield man was expecting the delivery of computer software equipment at his home last Thursday. When he didn’t see the package on his porch he checked online tracking with Fed Ex and saw where it had been delivered.
Smithfield Police said it appears someone stole the Fed Ex package after it arrived at the victim’s home on N. Sussex Street last Thursday.
The stolen package contained equipment valued at $608.95.
Police said there are no suspects in the case.
An estimated 23 million packages are stolen each year from customers. To avoid being a victim, authorities suggest when possible to have packages delivered to your workplace, install security cameras on your front porch and require a signature for delivery. Officials also suggest to insure your packages so you can be reimbursed in the event of a theft.
