Smithfield, NC – Johnston County’s Emergency Management division would like to remind you that the deadline to apply for FEMA disaster assistance is Thursday, December 13, 2018.
If you were impacted by Hurricane Florence and are located in Johnston County, you are eligible for FEMA disaster assistance. If you remain doubtful as to whether you meet requirements, APPLY ANYWAY or call 1-800-621-FEMA. Disaster survivors who received initial rental assistance from FEMA may get more help with Continued Rental Assistance.
How do you apply? You can apply in one of three ways:
- Call 1-800-621-FEMA
- Apply at a Disaster Recovery Center in your area. Locate yours at https://egateway.fema.gov/ESF6/DRCLocator
- Apply online at https://www.disasterassistance.gov/
Since Hurricane Florence, FEMA has given out $116 million in disaster assistance to over 35,000 survivors.
After applying, it is important to remain in touch with FEMA because it is possible that your housing needs may change, a document may be needed, or you may hear from your insurance company during the assistance process. Two-way communication is essential between you and FEMA.
FEMA may have to extend aid and deadlines for certain individuals, but you do not know your options if you do not call and update them about changes in your housing situation.
