The NC 42 East widening project near Clayton is moving along quickly, now.
Monday, the final two bridge spans for the westbound side were delivered and set in place across the Neuse River.
The large 125 foot-long concrete beams were made in Charlotte, NC and delivered by a Mississippi company. It takes three, end-to-end beams to stretch across the river and two heavy-duty cranes to be moved to their final resting spots.
When completed, the new bridge will actually be just one wide bridge, not two, and will provide access to the new NC 42 Parkway to the Flowers area.
