Fire Contained At Holts Lake South

A homeowner cleaning up debris in the edge of Holts Lake, after the water level was recently lowered, accidentally sparked a fire that burned the backyards of three homes on Mariah Drive in the Holts Lake South Subdivision in Four Oaks Wednesday afternoon.

Four Oaks Fire Chief Barry Stanley said a spark from the burning debris in the edge of the dry lake bed ignited the grass in one back yard. Aided by the wind the fire quickly spread to two other yards.

Four Oaks fire crews, with the assistance of the NC Forestry Service, were able to contain the blaze about 15 minutes after arriving on the scene. Crews remained on the scene more than an hour putting out hot spots.

Chief Stanley said the Forestry Service issued a warning ticket to the individual for improper burning.   No homes were damaged and no injuries were reported. JoCoReport.com Photos
