The Benson Fire Department responded to a fire Wednesday morning at The Donut Shoppe at 203 South Dunn Street.
Flames were reported around 8:40am, according to Benson Fire Chief Alan Johnson.
Chief Johnson said the business had not opened for the day. When crews arrived they found smoke and flames, which were quickly extinguished.
Fire investigators said the blaze began in a front room near a coffee table.
The cause remains undetermined.
The business is owned by John and Paul Strickland and the property owner is Lenard McLamb.
The Johnston County Fire Marshal was called to investigate and although the cause of the fire is still unknown, the incident is not being treated as suspicious.
The Benson and Elevation Fire Departments responded to the scene. The Meadow and Dunn Fire Departments were also dispatched to the fire but were canceled before they arrive on the scene, Chief Johnson said.
