SMITHFIELD – A fire damaged a home in Downtown Smithfield about 12:15pm Tuesday. A neighbor called 911 reporting the blaze at the two-story home at the intersection of North Third and Caswell Streets.
Crews from the Smithfield Fire Department arrived to find smoke and flames coming from the back of the residence. They were assisted by the Selma and Wilson’s Mills Fire Departments in containing the blaze.
Smithfield Police blocked off North Third and Caswell Streets to traffic.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Johnston County Fire Marshal’s Office.
