Fire Damages Motel Room At Selma Econo Lodge

SELMA, N.C. — A fire damaged a second-floor room at the Econo Lodge in Selma on Wednesday morning, sending one person to the hospital for evaluation.
According to authorities, the occupant of the room used fire extinguishers to knock down the flames before firefighters arrived on the scene.

The Selma Fire Department responded and ensured the fire was completely extinguished.
The occupant was transported to a local hospital as a precaution for possible smoke inhalation.

Authorities said the fire was contained to one room, but smoke spread into three adjacent motel rooms, causing additional damage.
The Johnston County Fire Marshal’s Office determined the fire originated from a malfunctioning air conditioning unit.
Selma Police responded to the scene to assist.
