A fire heavily damaged a South Smithfield home. The blaze was reported at 6:14pm Sunday in the 700 block of South First Street.
Several fire trucks from the Smithfield and Four Oaks Fire Departments responded to battle the blaze. Flames were seen coming from the roof.
Neighbors stood across the street and watched fire personnel bring the stubborn blaze under control.
Smithfield Police detoured traffic around the scene. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
There was no immediate report of any injuries.
