SELMA – A Thursday afternoon fire destroyed a home on America Drive, off NC Highway 96, north of Selma. The residents were able to escape the flames and smoke and safely evacuated their dog and two cats.

At least 10 fire departments from Johnston and Wake counties responded to scene.

The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office shut down a portion of Highway 96 to allow a “tanker task force” to shuttle water to the fire scene.
