Fire Destroys Vacant Home

FOUR OAKS – An early morning fire destroyed a vacant home near Four Oaks. The blaze was reported at 12:07am Monday in the 1200 block of US Highway 701 South, across from Piney Grove Pentecostal Freewill Baptist Church.

The Four Oaks, Smithfield, and Strickland’s Crossroads Fire Departments arrived to find the house fully engulfed in flames. It took just over an hour to bring the fire under control.

The Johnston County Fire Marshal’s Office is being assisted by the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office in the investigation. Officials said the blaze started in the basement but the origin has not been determined.

No injuries were reported.
