SMITHFIELD – The Town of Smithfield Water Department will be replacing two fire hydrants this weekend, beginning Saturday night, January 25th, at approximately 7:00 PM, and concluding by Sunday morning, January 26th, at 9:00 AM. The work will take place at the intersections of N. 5th Street & Caswell Street and N. 5th Street & Bridge Street.
To facilitate the replacement of these fire hydrants, a temporary water service interruption will be necessary in the surrounding area. Due to the age of the water lines and valves, it is currently uncertain how many valves will need to be turned off, or how many customers will be affected by this maintenance.
In addition to the hydrant replacement, this project will allow the water department to assess the condition of the main line valves in the area. This evaluation will assist in planning future upgrades to minimize disruptions and improve service reliability for customers.
