Fire Marshal: House Fire Started In Garage

The Johnston County Fire Marshal’s Office says a fire that heavily damaged a home started in the garage and then spread.  The blaze was reported at 6:35am Sunday at 668 Chisenhall Road off Highway 210 near Harnett County.

The West Johnston, 50-210 and Angier Fire Departments responded.  Crews had to transport water from a distant fire hydrant to battle the fire.

Deputy Fire Marshal Ryan Parker said the fire originated in the garage, however the exact cause could not be determined. The cause of the fire was listed as undetermined.

One person lived at the address and was at home when the fire started. They made it out unharmed.  There were two dogs in the residence. Once was able to escape but the second dog perished.

Damage to the home was estimated at $70,000.
