SMITHFIELD – Several fire departments responded to fire Wednesday evening at the Blue Line Aviation building at the Johnston Regional Airport on Swift Creek Road.
A Johnston County deputy sheriff spotted black smoke rising from the roof of the multi-story 40,531 square foot building shortly after 7:00pm.
Crews used a ladder truck to reach the roof and extinguish the flames. The Johnston County Fire Marshal’s Office responded to the scene to begin an investigation into the cause.
In September 2019, Blue Line Aviation broke ground on the $13 million facility. The facility was approximately 60-90 days away from opening before the fire. The extent of the damage is unknown.
