A fire that burned a large cotton bale over-the-weekend was arson. Around 2:30pm Saturday, the Meadow Fire Department responded to the suspicious fire in a field off Melba Lane. The fire was extinguished.
The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office responded and determined the fire had been intentionally set by a juvenile. The incident remains under investigation.
Damage was estimated at $2,500. The cotton was owned by Wesley Barefoot of Dunn.
