The Smithfield Town Council has approved the purchase of a new fire truck and two new police SUV’s.
The council approved the purchase of a 2017 Smeal fire engine at a cost of $490,000. The engine will replace a 24 year-old fire truck that is nearing the end of its lifespan. The fire truck purchase is less than the $530,000 budgeted for the purchase this fiscal year.
The council also approved spending $61,482 for two Ford Interceptor police SUV’s. Each SUV will cost $30,741. The total cost is just under $62,000 budgeted this year for the purchase. The SUV’s will replace the existing patrol vehicles for the K-9 officers.
