JOHNSTON COUNTY – A Cleveland Fire Department vehicle was struck while at an accident scene, Wednesday afternoon.

Fire Chief Chris Ellington said crews were on the scene of a traffic accident in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 40 near the 312 mile marker. A passenger car lost control and struck the back of a fire engine.

The driver of the passenger vehicle was transported to the hospital. Luckily, no first responders were not injured.
Chief Ellington said firefighters were using a reserve truck because the main truck was out of service due to being struck on I-40 in December.

“Services will not be interrupted and another truck will be used in its place,” Ellington said.
People need to slow down. Cleveland fire department should buy a blocking rig like Belfast in Wayne County did.
