CLEVELAND COMMUNITY – Eastbound lanes of Interstate 40 were shut down Tuesday evening when a pair of accidents left wrecked cars, injured people and a damaged fire truck in the roadway. It happened around 6:30pm near the eastbound on ramp from the Cleveland Road/NC 42 area.
The first accident involved an overturned car with serious injuries. Despite many flashing lights and emergency personnel, the second accident involved a car traveling eastbound and a stopped Cleveland Fire Department fire truck.
There were no injuries in the second accident, and no firefighters were injured, but the fire truck sustained considerable damage.
In a post on the Cleveland Fire Department Facebook page they wrote, “… We ask that this serve as a reminder to slow down and move over when you encounter emergency vehicles. The lives of our Firefighters depend on it!”
Multiple lanes of I-40 were shut down for over two hours during the investigation and clean up.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol investigated the two accidents.
This is what happens when you’re the problem, looking at your phone while driving.
To the stupid person who hit the Fire Truck and when I call you stupid person, I guarantee you I am being nice. Tell us what you were doing? Were you texting, filling your fat mouth, reaching down to pick up a french-fry you dropped, reading a book? Just so you know that the lights flashing on a Fire Truck, or a Police car are not just pretty to look at, but they really have a meaning and serve a purpose. The bright flashing lights mean, MOVE OVER AND SLOW DOWN YOU MORON! Thank God no Fighters were injured. It was bad enough the people they were helping were and I pray for their recovery.
This is their second truck to get damaged. Fire departments around here need to get blockers like they have in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
What is a blocker? I was FDNY and never heard of it.
