Firefighters Contain Tuesday Night Blaze On Brightleaf Boulevard

SMITHFIELD, N.C. — A Tuesday night fire caused significant damage to a storage building at a local business in Smithfield.
The blaze was reported shortly after 8 p.m. at 110 S. Brightleaf Boulevard. When crews with the Smithfield Fire Department arrived, they found flames coming from the “Sugar Shack,” a small storage building used by Hills of Snow to house supplies, according to Fire Chief Jeremey Daughtry.

A nearby resident called 911 after spotting smoke and flames coming from the structure.
Firefighters quickly brought the blaze under control, preventing it from spreading to nearby buildings.
The Johnston County Fire Marshal’s Office investigated the incident and determined the fire was accidental.

Smithfield Fire was assisted at the scene by units from Selma Fire Department and Four Oaks Fire Department. Johnston County EMS and Smithfield Police Department also responded and stood by during the incident.
No injuries were reported.
